Causative Form: 〜させる

The causative form expresses making or letting someone do something. It is constructed differently depending on the verb group.

Formation

Group 1 (u-verbs)
書く → 書かせる
Change u-ending to a + せる (e.g. 書く→書か+せる)
Group 2 (ru-verbs)
食べる → 食べさせる
Drop る then add させる
Irregular: する
する → させる

Irregular: 来る
来る → 来させる (こさせる)

Examples

Sensei wa gakusei ni sakubun wo kakaseta.
The teacher made the students write an essay.
Haha wa kodomo ni yasai wo tabesaseta.
The mother made the child eat vegetables.
Buchou wa watashi ni zangyou saseta.
The department head made me work overtime.
Kanojo wa inu wo hashiraseta.
She made the dog run.
Shachou wa shain ni houkokusho wo teishutsu saseta.
The president made the employees submit reports.
