て-Form Verbs

The て-form is one of the most important verb forms in Japanese. It's used to connect actions, make requests, and form many grammar patterns.

Group 1 (u-verbs)

〜う / 〜つ / 〜る〜って
〜む / 〜ぶ / 〜ぬ〜んで
〜く〜いて
〜ぐ〜いで
〜す〜して

Group 2 (ru-verbs)

〜る〜て
〜る〜て

Common Uses of て-Form

Sequence of actions
Okite, asagohan wo tabeta.
I woke up and ate breakfast.
Request (〜てください)
Chotto matte kudasai.
Please wait a moment.
Ongoing action (〜ている)
Ima, tabete imasu.
I am eating right now.
Permission (〜てもいい)
Koko ni suwatte mo ii desu ka?
May I sit here?
Prohibition (〜てはいけない)
Koko de shashin wo totte wa ikemasen.
You must not take photos here.
