Formal Negative — ません

ます → ません (present) / ませんでした (past)

食べますdon't eat
行きますdon't go
飲みましたdidn't drink

Plain Negative — ない形

U-verbs: final vowel → a + ない | Ru-verbs: る → ない | する→しない | くる→こない

行くdon't go (plain)
飲むdon't drink (plain)
食べるdon't eat (plain)

Noun / な-Adjective Negative — じゃない

Noun/な-adj + じゃない (casual) or ではない (formal)

学生ですnot a student
元気ですnot well
便利ですnot convenient (formal)

い-Adjective Negative — くない

い → くない (present) | い → くなかった (past)

高いnot expensive
おいしいnot delicious
いいnot good (irregular!)
